“Tea Party candidates strong desire to roll back New Deal comes out of the GOP establishment’s own creation.”

Here you get the left-wing (to be kind) response from Paul Street, about what they think about the Tea Party and the 2013 government shutdown.

If you are a leftist, (Democratic Socialist or otherwise) anyone to the right of you (which is almost every American alive and breathing) looks pretty conservative to you. Because most Americans don’t think they’re undertaxed, or the Federal Government is too small, or want government making their health care decisions for them, etc.

But Paul Street is correct in this sense. Before the economic populists and the religious populists (and in some case that’s the exact same political faction) emerged together, the Republican Party was mostly a center-right conservative party. 20 years ago, the John McCain’s of the world in Congress would’ve been considered the hardcore Conservative Republicans. They still are, but they almost look pretty moderate compared with the Tea Party.

About Derik Schneider

I use a picture of John F. Kennedy as my profile pic on social media for as a very good reason: I'm a center-right, John F. Kennedy, Liberal Democrat. The real Liberals who believe in the defense of liberal democracy and the fight against authoritarianism, left-wing or right-wing. But I blog a lot about the Far-Left (or new-left, if you prefer) because I'm very interested in socialism and communism, as well as center-left progressivism, which is the real progressivism.
